He began making music in the early 1960s for Stax Records, which he would later become an integral part of. Hayes wrote many important and well loved records, and notably wrote the score to the film Shaft. Hayes also played the voice of Chef on the television show South Park for nearly a decade, and had some other notable parts in various movies as
